Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s announcement of a national taskforce to tackle the growing ice epidemic has been welcomed by Central Coast federal MPs.

Robertson and Dobell federal Liberal MPs Lucy Wicks and Karen McNamara say ice use on the coast is increasing and a major concern.

“Ice use is a growing problem right around our nation, ruining individuals, destroying families, and hurting communities. Sadly, this includes communities right here on the Central Coast,” Mrs Wicks said.

“I’m hearing about more and more people who are touched by the ice epidemic every day, and there are so many shocking stories from across our region.

“I look forward to working closely with the Central Coast community, including Police Superintendent Daniel Sullivan, to consult widely to ensure that all aspects of this menace are being addressed in our area.”

Mrs McNamara said with ice usage increasing by 112 per cent over the past two years, more needed to be done to stop the drug getting on the streets.
